Our retirees are inducted into the Hall of Fame!

Richard Branson, the great Virgin boss used to say, “Take care of your employees, they’ll take care of your company!”

Produlith applies this maxim on a daily basis at its Boucherville plant. This SME, specialized in the packaging industry, has found an original way of recognizing the commitment and effort of its employees: by inducting its retirees on the factory wall!

Following in the footsteps of the Montreal Canadiens and other National Hockey League teams, Produlith came up with the idea of making banners and hoisting the names of retiring employees from the ceiling: “I used to go to the Montreal Forum with my father, and I was always impressed to see the banners on the ceiling – Maurice Richard, Jean Béliveau, Ken Dryden and other former Canadiens stars. I had the idea of repeating the formula in our company. On the day of retirement, we stop production in the plant, hold a small ceremony and hoist the banner with the person’s name and years of service! The employees are so grateful,” says Shawn Desmarchais, President of Produlith since 2006.

Appreciated recognition

Four banners have already been produced, and a fifth will be added shortly. Michel Goudreault in 2016, Roger Côté in 2020, Gerard Emery in 2021 and Diane Foster in 2022 are so far the retirees inducted into the Produlith Hall of Fame: “The day I left, I was presented with a frame in front of all the employees and my name was hoisted to the ceiling of the workshop, it was touching! Produlith is a company that takes care of its people; no one leaves the company except for retirement, and that’s saying a lot. It’s a privilege to have worked here,” adds Roger Côté, who was an account manager and devoted 33 years of service to Produlith, and who took a well-deserved retirement in January 2020, just a few weeks before Covid.

Retired in 2021, Gerard Emery has never forgotten this recognition: “In my entire career, I’ve never seen this kind of attention paid to employees. If all companies could imitate Produlith, all Quebec retirees would leave smiling and happy. Even after I’ve left, Anick Garcin, a partner at Produlith, continues to check on me regularly, which shows a great family spirit.”
