Different types of paperboard
There are many types of paperboard, but did you know that Produlith uses three main types? SBS, CCNB and KRAFT. Each is adapted to specific uses based on its technical and aesthetic characteristics.
SBS (solid Bleached Sulfate) board is a high-quality board, highly appreciated for its aesthetic and technical qualities. It is widely used for packaging requiring elegant presentation and high-quality printing, for high-end products or for the pharmaceutical industry.
It is made from virgin wood fibers that are bleached during the manufacturing process. It is completely white, both inside and out, giving it a clean, premium appearance.
CCNB (Clay Coated News Back) board is a type of board made from recycled paper, usually coated with a layer of white clay on its face. This coating gives the board a smooth, glossy finish, perfect for graphic prints and visually appealing designs. The back of the board, on the other hand, is often gray or brown, as it is made from unbleached recycled fibers.
CCNB is often used for food products, advertising or household products. It’s an excellent choice for brands looking for an affordable, eco-friendly solution.
And finally, KRAFT cardboard is made from unbleached wood pulp, which gives it its natural brown color. This material is particularly well known for its strength, versatility and resistance. Its raw, eco-friendly look makes it an excellent choice for brands that value simplicity and durability, while offering great versatility for a variety of uses.
It is often used for heavier products such as consumer goods and foods.
