Recently, Produlith acquired a custom-built palletizing robot. This quarter-million-dollar investment will enable the Boucherville-based company to achieve greater efficiency and increased productivity.
A robotic palletizer uses a conveyor to move items. It employs robotic technology to organize and stack boxes, eliminating the need for an employee to carry them onto a pallet.
Digital technologies and robotics are increasingly used in manufacturing companies. Following a 4.0 analysis of its plant, Produlith decided to move forward with automation—a first… but perhaps not the last. “This acquisition allows us to achieve our health and safety objectives. It ensures better standardization of our products, addresses the challenge of recruiting skilled labour, and guarantees greater productivity,” said Shawn Desmarais, President of Produlith.
Improvement of Employee Conditions
It is essential to mention that this robot is not replacing an employee; there will be no job cuts. Instead, there will be an efficiency optimization, accompanied by better working conditions and enhanced safety, eliminating injury risks: “We used to have two employees per machine, and this department occupied more than 10 meters in our factory. Now, the crate moves on the conveyor, and the robot does the rest of the work simultaneously on two production lines, without interruptions and with complete safety.”

To develop this robot, Produlith partnered with Vention, a company from Lachine that specialized in the manufacturing and designing of automated equipment. Vention is well-known in the industry, working with global leaders such as Amazon, Thyssenkrupp, and Toro.
