In the fifteenth capsule of the PROpulsion series, senior graphic designer Guy Martineau shares his unique perspective on packaging—one deeply influenced by his role as a packaging designer. Guy describes his special connection with packaging, noting that walking through store aisles is never a passive experience for him. He is naturally drawn to colors, typography, photography, and the balance between text and images, often viewing them with a critical eye. His purchasing decisions are frequently influenced by the quality of the packaging. When he encounters well-designed packaging, he feels a genuine emotional connection, which often prompts him to purchase the product and bring it home. Once there, he takes the time to analyze the packaging, dissecting its construction and design to understand what makes it effective. For Guy, this attention to detail goes beyond professional reflex—it’s a seamless blend of his life as both a designer and a consumer.
